The SDUSD Educational Technology Department and the SDUSD Mathematics Department are providing support and training for integrating technology into the district's mathematics curriculum.

Technology, when used appropriately, has been shown to improve instruction as well as student motivation. Specifically, in a mathematics classroom the use of technology can help students extend and improve the quality of their work. It also enables students access to higher-level problems that are otherwise too complex.

Thus, technology is needed in a balanced mathematics curriculum to enhance student understanding and motivation. It is imperative that mathematics teachers are experts in their content area and proficient using technology tools. This knowledge will enable them to appropriately and effectively integrate technology into the curriculum only when and where it makes sense and will positively affect student learning and understanding.
