SDCS ESETT Project Summary

The San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) Enhancing Science Education Through Technology (ESETT) project will use grade 7 and 8 middle school science classrooms as the setting where students and their teachers will utilize technology-based learning strategies in support of the district-adopted science curriculum. Science is an optimal choice for technology integration because the teaching approaches (i.e., connections with real time data and natural phenomena) that are used in contemporary science curriculum and instruction are conducive to the integrated use of technology. The overall intent of this proposed program would ensure that the instructional use of technology would expand learning opportunities in the following ways: alignment to the state standards-based curriculum; learning opportunities beyond what can be taught with the traditional curriculum; increased student engagement in science; and complement the district-adopted curriculum.
