Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a free, Open Source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities.  It can be used both with adults and students of all ages.  At the least, Moodle can be a tool for a teacher or staff member to create a web presence.  At its most powerful, Moodle can be used as a tool to create a distance based learning tool that can stand alone or supplement face-to-face learning.  Moodle promotes collaboration, activity-based learning, and critical reflection.
