The Process

Follow these steps to complete your chapter in Exploring Explorers.

Choose an explorer from the Explorer Choices list.

Because there is so much to learn about your explorer, you might decide it is best to work as a team and divide the work into specific roles. Read through the following roles and job descriptions. Choose which role each member of your team will take.

Map Maker

research and develop a map showing pertinent locations

Biographer

research and write about the explorer's background

Historian

research and write about the explorer's expeditions

Evaluator

the success of the expeditions and develop a timeline of the explorer's life

 

 

Research using the suggested resources.

  • Take detailed notes.
  • Remember to find information to justify the value of this explorer's accomplishments for the summary statements in your chapter.
  • Keep a record of the information of your sources for your bibliography.

Use the Inspiration diagram to help you take notes and organize them for your draft.

Write your draft for your editor's approval. Revise. Edit.

Draw, select, and scan your final pictures, drawings, and maps.

Word process, edit, spell check, and print the final body of your chapter.

Develop the Timeline.

Organize your chapter to include:

  • Title page
  • Table of Contents
  • Body
  • Time Line
  • Maps & Drawings
  • Bibliography
