Curriculum Standards

Through an in-depth study of one explorer and then the sharing of information between groups the students will:

Knowledge and Understanding:

History:

  • Analyze the sometimes complex cause and effect relationships of ideas and events, recognizing also the effects of the accidental and irrational on history.
  • Recognize the interrelatedness of geography economics, culture, belief systems, and political systems within history

Ethics and Beliefs:

  • Understand that the ideas people profess affect their actions

Geography:

  • Understand movement of people, goods, and ideas

Skills:

Study Skills:

  • Locate, select, and collect information by interviewing or by using appropriate reference materials
  • Organize information from reference sources to address issues
  • Present information convincingly in spoken and written form.

Visual Learning:

  • Understand, use, and create graphic information (timelines and graphic organizers)

Map and Globe Skills:

  • Construct and use maps

Critical Thinking:

  • Define and clarify ideas
  • Evaluate and judge information related to an idea
  • Solve problems and draw conclusions related to an idea

Social Participation:

  • Develop interpersonal skills
  • Work successfully in groups
