Compressing and Archiving Files

If you want to either archive files or compress several files so they are easily downloadable or sent via e-mail, Compact Pro is your program. This job aid describes the process of archiving only, if you wish then make it a downloadable file, you must follow the directions at the Creating Downloadable Files tutorial.

The Process

1. Once you have opened Compact Pro go to New under File on the menu bar.

2. Next navigate to Add under Archive on the menu bar.

3. Find the file(s) that will wish to compress and use the Add or Add All buttons at the bottom of the dialogue box. While you are finished, hit Done.

4. Once you have it done you will be able to see all of the files that you have added and their size.

5. Now you need to save your file.

  • Make sure you give it an appropriate name (no spaces).
  • Make sure that Self Extracting is checked at the bottom.

Once you have done all those things, hit Save.

6. Once you have saved you will be able to see how much the files have compressed. If you notice in the red section below, all of these files were compressed between 58% and 68%.
