You might consider using one of three search engines that have been deemed "kid safe" and "kid friendly." Each site that is added to these web databases are reviewed by employees of the search engine companies.

KidsClick! Web Search	KidsClick! was created by a group of librarians as a logical step in addressing concerns about the role of public libraries in guiding their young users to valuable and age appropriate web sites.

Tips for using these searchable indexes

All three work in a similar manner and all have the capability to browse or search.

• Browsing - If you don't have a specific idea in mind, but know the general subject area, browsing or "surfing" as it is commonly called is your best choice. Browsing is not recommended if you do not have a lot of time, students often find themselves on tangents (imagine that) that bring them off of the subject at hand.
  
  
  
• Searching - The most direct way to find specific information is to type in keyword(s) and hit the search button. This will search the database for the word(s) you selected in the title, description, and web address, and return to you a list of results.

• KIDS (Kids Identifying and Discovering Kids) - An online resource for students developed by other K12 students from around the nation. There is not much here, but it should grow over time.
