Using Claris Home Page Tutorial

Previewing your web page in Netscape

While Claris Home Page shows you a close representation of what your web page will look like on the Internet, it is important to examine it the way everyone else will - through Netscape. Previewing your page is something that should be done every once in while, just to make sure all is well. Each time you preview, Claris will automatically save all open web pages.

Items covered in this section:

  1. Previewing in Netscape
  2. Returning to Claris Home Page to continue working
  3. What to look for and do while Previewing

Previewing in Netscape

1. Find the Preview button (indicated on the right with the arrow).

2. Click and hold on the Preview button, and a menu will pop up. Select the first "Preview in Navigator" and release the mouse.

Note: If you wish to check how it will appear in a both Netscape and Explorer (if available) select "Preview in All."

3. Once you have released the mouse, Netscape will open if it is not already, and you will soon be able to see your Preview. See below for What to look for while Previewing.

This file is not actually on the Internet, it is located on your machine only, if you note that the location begins with "file," this denotes that it is a local file. Addresses on web pages on the Internet begin with "http."

Returning to Claris Home Page

1. To return to Claris Home Page to continue working, you must utilize the Applications Menu found in the far upper right hand corner.

2. Click and hold on the Netscape icon and move the mouse down to Claris Home Page. Release the mouse. This will toggle you back into Claris and you are ready to continue working.

Note: You may open more than one application at one time, however, if you forget to close programs that you are no longer using you increase the risk of your machine freezing as well as bring down the computer's overall performance.

What to Look For

When you are previewing you should have some sort of plan. Here are some items to look for as you Preview your page.

  • How long does it take to load? If you have a lot of graphics and it takes awhile to load locally, chances are it will take even longer over the Internet.

  • Do your links work? Just click on them. If they don't work return to Home Page and verify the addresses.

  • Are the images in the correct place?

  • Does your text need to be broken up into lists or paragraphs?
