Using Claris Home Page Tutorial

The Title and File Name

The title and file name of your documents not the same thing. The title of your document is a separate name that appears at top of the Netscape window (as shown below). I have titled this page "The Title and File Name" as is shown. If you examine the top of the Netscape window you will see it.

The file name is the last part of the address that begins "with http://". It is the part that ends with ".html" or ".htm" (This file is called title.html, find it in the location box). You name the file when you save it.

Titling your web page for the first time

1. There are two ways in Claris Home Page to title your document. The first way comes up automatically when you save it for the first time. Before it gives you the Save menu you provided a dialogue box that lets you give it a title. Give your page an appropriate name and hit OK.

2. Now the save menu will appear. Notice that Claris assigns a file name based upon your title, using _ to denote spaces.

You probably do not want to keep the Claris assigned name unless it is only one word. It is best to keep your file names short.

3. Assign your web page a short and appropriate files name and hit save. Always leave the ".htm" or ".html" on the end of your file. Claris will automatically add an ".htm" to your file name.

Congratulations you have titled your page and given it a file name.

Changing the title

1. If you have already saved and either did not give it a title or want to change the title, you can easily change it. First find the Document Options button and click on it.

2. Next you click on the Parameters tab.

3. You may observe your current title and change it under the Document Title heading on this menu.

Once you have completed this, hit OK and you can continue working on your web page.
