Even if you don't have the Internet in your classroom you can still uses Netscape, the pages that you have created, and the resources available on the web. A program called Web Buddy will actually take a part (small or big) of the Internet, including all graphics, and save it onto a disk. Later you can open up those files and navigate through them as if you are actually on the web!
Web Buddy allows you to save an individual page or an entire site. These directions provide instructions for both.
Getting Web Buddy
You can download a Web Buddy demo that will last
for 30 days, but after that you will have to purchase it. To download
it go to the Datavitz
homepage and look for Demos.
Capturing a single page
1. Once you install Web Buddy, the Web Buddy Tool Bar will launch every time you start Netscape. The first button lets you grab a single Page. |
2. Once you click on it, the Page to Go menu will pop open. You should first confirm the Title and URL. The category will default to Datavitz, this is the folder where it will be saved. Click and hold on the arrow next to the Category. |
3. I have already created a Triton category, but you can create your own with New Category. |
4. Once you have selected the category and have confirmed the other information, hit Take Now. Depending upon how many graphics are on the page, it could take a several moments. The Web Buddy Status window will open at this time (you may have to go to the Applications Menu to access it). During this time you can go back to Netscape and continue working. When it is finished your computer will bark (yes, I mean literally bark like a dog). |

4. Once you have selected the category, confirmed the other information, and selected Levels option, hit Take Now. Depending upon how many graphics are on the page, it could take a several moments to an hour or so. The Web Buddy Status window will open at this time where you can check how things are going (you may have to go to the Applications Menu to access it). During this time you can go back to Netscape and continue working. When it is finished your computer will bark. |
