BTB and YeastMrs. Poland, a teacher at Roosevelt Middle School, filmed the combination of Yeast and sugar with time lapse photography of a balloon filling up with air that the Yeast was exhaling.

She also filmed the combination of Yeast and sugar with time lapse photography of Bromthymol Blue (BTB) changing from blue to yellow over time as the Yeast consumed the sugar and the gas they gave off was piped through the BTB solution.

Her purpose for doing this was to be able to help students make sense of the information they had learned after the lab and to be able to relate further learning back to the visual data that she had collected. As many students at Roosevelt Middle are English Language Learners, she strives to capture as much visual information as possible to help the students to learn the content.

SALI 13Ms. O'Donnell's students at Roosevelt Middle School performed the skit from SALI Activity 13 and filmed by the teacher. The reason for putting this skit to film was to more thoroughly engage the students. Roosevelt has many English language learners in the school population and lengthy readings can be difficult to follow. By filming the skit and playing the movie for the class, the use of the students creativity and accents in the performance sought to engage the students much better. The teacher's initial speculation was that this version of the skit would engage the students more than just the reading and, in fact, that was the result that she found to be true.
