In this episode we will discuss how 8th grade teachers at Correia Middle School use Microsoft Word and PowerPoint templates for science fair projects as scaffolds for students to complete the science fair write up and board layout. In this episode, Kellie Marcarelli, a teacher at Pershing Middle School, will discuss how students used Probeware (scientific tools) to collect and analyze data in their science fair projects. She will explain how these tools allowed the students to feel like real scientists in their ability to collect larger data sets more quickly and accurately while leaving them more time for interpretation, analysis, and the ability to focus more thoroughly on recommendations, conclusions, and trends that the data represented.

In his 8th grade science class at Correia Middle School, Mr. Ozeni uses his web site to provide documents, data, and templates and also to publish student work.  In addition, he also uses Topic Forums using PHPBB for teacher moderated online threaded discussions.  Below are links to the different projects on the site with a summary of what you will find at each link.

8th Grade Science Fair Project:
Students used Microsoft Word for writing and making tables, Microsoft Excel for creating data tables, analyzing data, and making graphs, Microsoft PowerPoint for creating a mock up of the science fair presentation board, digital cameras, and scientific tools such as probeware.
